Martin graduated from Queen’s University Belfast Medical School in 2016. Following this he completed foundation and core surgical training in Northern Ireland. 

Currently, Martin is Vice President to the Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT). ASiT represents over 3000 members encompassing all 10 Surgical Specialties in the UK and Ireland.

Martin has a strong interest in medical technologies as well as quality and service improvement within health and social care. As a medical student, he was Chair to the Northern Ireland Healthcare Leadership Forum (NIHLF) - a student society based at Queen's University Belfast.

Personally, Martin has been a strong advocate for the work of the British Heart Foundation following the sudden death of his younger brother in November 2016. He has spearheaded a national fundraising campaign to promote the work of the charity helping to raise over £92,000 to date. In August 2019, Martin became an official Ambassador to the charity in Northern Ireland.
